Overview (Deity/Sovereign auditions are closed)
Deities and sovereigns are special races of character at Edenei. They are magical humanoid creatures who govern, control and manipulate the many elements, forces of both good and evil alike. But most importantly of all, they are entrusted guardians to their homeland's (Siva Arar's) neighbour region; Edenei. No one knows the true reason for their existence, though it is thought to be linked to 'the balance'. By reading this guide, you will learn of both their way of life and in character purpose.
Deities-Information and Facts
Healing
All deities have basic healing powers (for example, they can hold their hand over a cut and it will repair itself), but only pure sovereigns can heal severe injuries, and only corrupt sovereigns can bring beings back from the dead. It is also rumoured those of the water element have the best healing skills, no matter their status.
Physical weakness
It might seem that the only way to defeat a deity is by elemental magic. Wrong; there is a fatal weakness built into every deity, and this weakness lies within their abdomen. A very sensitive area, if touched even slightly, the deity will more than likely recoil. The reason for this is that the skin is very fragile there, because an important internal organ lies beneath - the womb. This makes it an especially easy target for opponents, because the skin is easily pierced and will cause heavy bleeding if damaged. Few know that the abdomen is such a weak spot, and a cause for both extreme pain and pleasure alike.
Reproduction, sexuality and relationships
Reproduction and sexuality are complicated topics when concerning deities. Due to their long life span and rarity of the female gender, you would think there would be no need for it. However, it exists for very basic reasons. Deities are strongly in tune with their survival instincts, and the need to 'live on' and spread DNA is almost always expressed through sexuality, though it can also be an act out of emotions. The means of reproduction is a debatable subject amongst deities, as well as being controversial. Little know of the fact both genders can conceive, though when a male becomes pregnant it instantly puts his life in danger, and the chances of both the male and child surviving the feat is little to nothing (male deities give birth by cutting open their abdomen and dragging the child out, explaining why they often don't survive). A male's fertility rate is also extremely low, and is influenced by unnatural means such as his situation. Because of this, there are few male-born deities in existence and there is discrimination against such a thing.
The reason why both genders have wombs, the ability to conceive and give birth are unclear, though legend says that the first deities in existence were all male.. thus explaining the evolutionary process, if this legend is even true.
When it comes to the matter of relationships, deities (and sovereigns) are expected to pair up together in hopes of keeping 'unspoilt, immortal blood'. In conflict to these standard expectations, there have been many recordings of both immortal and mortal affairs, the two intermingling together in secret. Over the years, it seems as if deities have become more tolerant of immortal/mortal relationships due to their frequent occurrence, and are more open minded than ever when it regards love's chosen path. On that subject, if an immortal and mortal were to reproduce, there is a 50/50% chance of the child inheriting either their father's or mother's race. Meaning, the child could either be mortal, or of the deity race, there is no way of telling which until birth.
Sovereigns-Information and Facts
Sovereign/Deity difference
A sovereign is a deity who has reached their full potential. In other words, a godlike deity who has mastered all elements. One important difference between deities and sovereigns is the fact that sovereigns are immune to death via physical damage, and can only be killed by elemental magic that is strong against their starter element.
Homesick
If a sovereign is parted from Siva Arar's magical atmosphere for long periods of time, their powerful status will begin to deteriorate until they eventually revert back to a deity. The deterioration progress is both a physical and elemental aspect, largely effecting the sovereign's control over the many elements. Over gradual time (eight, to twelve months), their control will weaken until it disappears - leaving them only with their starter element, and other very basic deity skills. The physical side differs in those effected, but the most common symptoms are: weight loss, memory loss, enhanced aggression and minor bloodlust. Rarer symptoms include the likes of: ear lengthening (think elf ears), tail growth, heightened senses and extreme bloodlust. Symptoms only become dormant when the sovereign has reverted to a deity, though the physical symptoms typically remain. This 'illness' has been nicknamed as 'Homesick', and at the current time there is no known prevention to it happening. Once the effected sovereign returns to Siva Arar they will eventually (the time span depends on how long the sovereign has been away) mend back to their achieved sovereign state, though not all physical symptoms recover.
Apprentices
It is an old tradition that once a deity becomes a sovereign, they take on an 'apprentice' (usually a first stage deity) whom they then pass their knowledge on to over a gradual course of time. The relationship between a sovereign and its apprentice varies greatly, depending on many factors. Most sovereigns, however, tend to treat their apprentice like a personal assistant. Though some famous sovereigns have chosen not to do this in the past (for example: Xanadu, Faroth). Any respected sovereign will vow to keep their apprentice for life, though there have been incidents of sovereigns switching apprentice, or the alike.
The Balance
It is said that the balance is the result of the deities themselves. In return for their powers and elemental magic, the deities were entrusted to withhold the planet together by sustaining a mystical 'balance'. The word 'balance' is merely a fancy term for 'mortal order', and if the balance were to break then the whole planet would be effected via terrible, high-scale natural disasters.
